The Library

New Library system

We are really pleased to announce the launch of our new library system called Accessit.

This now means that you can log in and reserve a book (or 3!) and get them delivered to your tutor group. You will receive instructions at school on how to do this.

Use this link

  • In the top right corner, click on ‘Guest’
  • Choose ‘Login via SSO’
  • If you are using a school computer, it will just log you in and instead of ‘guest’ it will say your name.
  • If you are using a device at home, it will show you the ‘Office 365’ log in (if you have used the device to log in to your school email it will show this, if not use your school email address eg and use your normal school password.
  • The short video (less than 2 minutes!) will show you how to reserve books and then they will be delivered to your tutor room.
  • You can reserve up to 3 books for 3 weeks. (This will be reduced to 1 week just while everyone gets the opportunity to reserve their first book and go back to 3 by the end of May)
  • To return your book(s), your tutor will have a box you can put them in to be collected.
  • Email Ms Davies on  if you have any questions.

Happy reading!

Summer Secret Santa Book Review

Our Library

Our Library comprises 3 main areas:

  • Computer area where students can log on to do homework and research.
  • A formal area with desks for students to work and our non-fiction books section.
  • A more informal seating area for our students to read quietly. Our fiction section is here too.

The Library is a central hub in the school and you will also find the Students Council suggestion box and the Resilience Celebration box.

Opening times:

Each day in term-time:

8:15 – 8:30am

Break (see below for club timetable)

Lunchtime (see below for club timetable)

After-school: 3:00 - 4:00pm (see below for club timetable)

Class/ group use:

The Library is booked out for whole class sessions and is regularly used for small group activities. It’s a great space within the school and is used for various events throughout the year and is also an oasis for students who need some time out to be quiet.

Borrowing Books

Students can borrow up to 3 books at a time for 3 weeks at a time (renewals are possible). We are currently trialling plastic-free borrowing, so students simply need to give their name to Ms Davies and she will issue the books.

Each tutor group also brings students to the Library to choose a library book that stays in school for them to read during silent reading in registration.

Choosing books for the library

Our first priority is to engage with students about what their interests are and what books they enjoy reading. We want our students to discover and develop a love of reading that will help them in their academic progress and their personal lives.

Ms Davies keeps a ‘Student recommendation’ book to note down requests for when we next purchase books.

We subscribe to services with Creative Learning Services (formerly Library Services for Education) and are able to borrow books from their vast library as well as benefit from their expertise via network meetings held each term.

Student volunteers

We have a number of students who love the Library and spend a lot of their free time here. They also like to get involved and are very supportive in making book suggestions, re-shelving books and helping out wherever they can.

We are looking to expand this aspect of the Library with a formal team of student librarians who want to support the school community and also gain valuable work experience. Watch this space!

If you have any questions or suggestions, Ms Davies would love to hear from you, please get in touch via our main reception.
