At Ibstock Day Nursery, we aim to provide a safe, welcoming and friendly environment for children to achieve excellence through play and learning. We recognise the individuality of all children and their entitlement to high quality care and education. We aim to ensure the atmosphere in our provision enables all children to feel values, secure and included.

Toddler room

Our Happy Hedgehogs room offers an exciting environment for children from the age of 21-36 months. As we continue to follow the EYFS core areas we offer a wide range of adult-led and child initiated activities with a warmth embedded key person system. At this age your child is achieving many milestones so with the support of our experienced staff members, communication groups, and working in partnership with parents your child will be supported and celebrated.

Pre-school one and two

In the pre-school room we have our Friendly Foxes and Wise Owls, with children from 3 years up to school age. Our staff support your child’s individuality and independence whilst guiding them through play. The Wise Owls have access to many areas to develop their interests, fine and gross motor skills and ‘being school ready’. Although the main learning is through play we offer small group times with each child’s key person as well as communication groups. We offer FREE 15 to 30 hour places for eligible 2, 3 and 4 year olds.

During their time at pre-school, children will:

  • become self-confident;
  • take an interest in new things;
  • learn to tell the difference between right and wrong;
  • dress and undress themselves;
  • talk clearly and confidently;
  • enjoy stories, songs and poems, hearing and repeating sounds and linking them to the alphabet;
  • recognise and write some familiar words, such as their name;
  • use a pencil;
  • develop an understanding of maths through stories, songs, games and imaginative play;
  • become comfortable with numbers and ideas such as ‘heavier than’ and ‘bigger’;
  • be aware of space and shape;
  • learn to move confidently and control their body;
  • handle equipment, experiment with dance, make things, tell stories and make music.

We encourage children to explore and find out about the world around them and to ask questions. They build with different materials, embrace modern technology and learn its uses. They also find out about past events in their lives, and in the lives of their families, and discover different cultures and beliefs.
