18 Sep 2018

September 2018

Dear Parent/Carer,

Year 8 trip to France and Belgium

The Humanities department is delighted to announce its intention to organise an exciting visit to France and Belgium.  The visit will take place between 18/03/2019 - 21/03/2019 and will last for 3 nights and 4 days.

Accommodation for the trip will be in a safe and secure location, in the St Omer, France.  The accommodation and visit will be organised by a reputable and established company with years of experience organising school visits all over Europe.  The company website is

The opportunities presented by the visit are many.  Not only will it provide a chance to learn about, and appreciate the fascinating history of WW1, but also the chance to experience France and to utilise your child’s French speaking skills.  The visit will be both a fantastic historical and cultural experience.

Clearly, the value of this visit is great.  Not only for those either with a love of either History or French as a subject, but also for those who envisage taking either subject at GCSE.

The sights we would take in include:

  • Visit to Ulster Tower Memorial
  • WW1 Artefacts Viewing at Le Chateau
  • Visit to Tyne Cot British Cemetery
  • Visit to Langemark Cemetery
  • Entrance to Sanctuary Wood Museum
  • Visit to Lochnagar Crater
  • Visit to Menin Gate & the Last Post Ceremony
  • Visit to Newfoundland Park
  • Entrance to In Flanders Fields Museum
  • Visit to Thiepval Memorial & Visitor Centre
  • Visit to Croonaert Wood
  • Inclusive of meals and accommodation
  • Executive coach travel and channel crossing

The cost of this experience would be £325.  Places for the visit are strictly limited to 40

If you wish to register your interest in the visit, please email no later than Friday 28th September 2018.

Please do not hesitate to contact me at school, by phone or via email, should you have any questions or require further information.

Yours sincerely,

Mr James Mason
