HARLECH, Gwynedd Y9 residential trip 2018

09 Mar 2018

March 2018

I am delighted to inform you that your child has been selected to go on the trip to CMC Pensarn Harbour in Wales.

The cost of the trip is £320.00.

The trip can be paid either in full or in instalments via ParentPay and the details for payment are as follows:

  • £50.00 non-refundable deposit to be paid on or before Friday 16 March 2018 (any deposits not received by this date will result in your child’s place not being booked)
  • £70.00 interim payments to be paid on or before Friday 20 April, Friday 25 May, Friday 15 June and one final payment of £60.00 by Friday 6 July 2018.

(Arrangements may be available to support parents/families who are eligible for financial support. Please contact us if you would like to discuss this further.)

When making your payments through ParentPay please ensure you select Wales 2018 to assign the payment to the correct trip and not dinner money. Please contact the finance department if you need any assistance with this.

We will be holding a meeting on Monday 17 September at 6.00pm in the main hall at the college. The meeting will last approximately one hour. This will provide an opportunity to:

  • Gain an insight into what activities students will be taking part in at the outdoor education centre.
  • Discuss what kit students will need.
  • Know approximate times of arrivals and departures.
  • Receive essential contact numbers.
  • Ask further questions.

Please note that your child’s place on this trip will be subject to their behaviour in and around the college (meeting the college behaviour expectations) and dependent on their overall attendance, meeting the target that they have been set. Students must also be on track to meeting expected targets across the curriculum. This is in line with the college behaviour, trips and visits policy.

It is the final decision of the trip leader (in consultation with the SLT) as to whether a child is safe to go on the trip and represent the college.

(Refunds: refunds will only be made in the event of the trip being over-subscribed. If parents voluntarily remove their child from the trip, for any reason, or the school decides that the child cannot travel due to behaviour concerns (except for the initial deposit prior to the final list of students being approved), no refunds will be made. Furthermore, parents will be liable for the full cost of the trip once the final list of students has been approved.)

January 2018

This year we are organising an outdoor adventure trip to Harlech, Gwynedd which will take place from Monday 22 to Friday 26 October 2018.

The trip is open to all students in Y9 (in 2018-19) and offers an excellent opportunity for all students to benefit from:

  • Learning – citizenship, key skills, how to assess risk.
  • Environment – exploration, sustainable activities, expand horizons.
  • Teamwork – cooperation, trust, communication, helping others.
  • Relationships – friendship, developing sensitivity.
  • Individual – self-confidence, self-esteem, motivation, personal achievement.
  • Emotional – empathy, fun, sense of adventure, self-respect, pride.

Travel will be by coach from Ibstock to Wales and the accommodation is based on full board at CMC Pensarn Harbour which is situated in the Snowdonia National Park.

The approximate cost of the trip is £325.00 which can be paid either in full or in instalments via Parent Pay only.

Initially, if you would like your child to be considered for a place on the trip, please email Mr Pilcher richardp8@ibstockcollege.leics.sch.uk by Friday 9 February 2018, with your child's name and tutor group.

There are 44 places available on the trip and when the list has been finalised you will receive a letter to confirm whether your son/daughter has secured a place. This letter will also confirm the final price of the trip and will ask for the non-refundable deposit of £50 to be paid via Parent Pay. The letter will also give a breakdown of when the balance will need to be paid. We want to give you plenty of notice so you can plan and budget for your child’s visit. (Arrangements may be available to support parents/families who are eligible for financial support. Please contact us if you would like to discuss this further.)

Should the trip be over-subscribed, additional students will be placed onto a reserve list. If, however, we do not have 44 students to fill the spaces available the trip could still go ahead but costings would need to be revisited and all parents would be informed before any deposits were paid to the centre. A large shortfall in numbers would, unfortunately, put the trip in jeopardy.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards

Rich Pilcher - trip leader - richardp8@ibstockcollege.leics.sch.uk

Marianne Clements - educational visits coordinator - marianneclements@ibstockcollege.leics.sch.uk
