Ibstock Community College will be making a change to the published dates on our website and will be adopting the terms dates as published by the local authority for 2018-19. We had previously published amended term dates to ensure that the educational provision for students was balanced and evenly split across the year.
We discussed this with our partner secondary and primary schools in July 2016 and there was general agreement. Unfortunately, the original plan has now become problematic as a result of the decision by the local authority to keep the same holiday pattern for the primary maintained schools.
I have made representation to the local authority to ensure that we are consulted as to the term dates into the future, so that the best interests of students can be met at school, whether primary, high or upper. They have confirmed that there will be a consultation period for the next round of term dates which will be for the period 2019 to 2022.
Please be aware that the term dates will now be as follows for Ibstock Community College in the academic year 2018-19:
AUTUMN term 2018/19
School opens: Wednesday 29 August 2018
Half term break: Friday 12 to Friday 19 October 2018 (6 school days)
School closes: Friday 21 December 2018 (2pm)
SPRING term 2018/19
School opens: Tuesday 8 January 2019
Half term break: Monday 18 to Friday 22 February 2019
School closes: Friday 12 April 2019
SUMMER term 2018/19
School opens: Monday 29 April 2019
Bank holiday: Monday 6 May 2019
Half term break: Monday 27 to Friday 31 May 2019
School closes: Friday 12 July 2019 (2pm)
However, please note that we will be keeping the published pattern for the October 2017 break as this is within the next year and we have decided this is too late to change.
I will do everything in my power to ensure that the difficulties experienced by a number of families with children in different schools are not repeated into the future through representation to the local authority to prepare term dates that are properly balanced.
