I am delighted to inform you that your child has been selected to go on the trip to Stratford upon Avon.

The cost of the trip is £28.00 inclusive of transport and entrance fees. We kindly ask that your payment is made by Friday 13 April 2018 (if we do not receive enough voluntary contributions to cover the cost of this trip, the trip may not be able to go ahead).

Should any student no longer wish to take part they must inform the college as a matter of urgency before Tuesday 10 April.

When making your payment through ParentPay please ensure you select ‘Stratford 2018’ to assign the payment to the correct trip and not lunch money. Please contact the finance department if you need any assistance with this. In addition, please complete the CONSENT FORM with contact details in case of an emergency and return the completed form to Mrs Hayles.

Please note that your child’s place on this trip will be subject to their behaviour in and around the college (meeting the college behaviour expectations) and dependent on their overall attendance meeting the target that they have been set. Students must also be on track to meet expected targets across the curriculum. This is in line with the college behaviour, trips and visits policies.

It is the final decision of the trip leader (in consultation with the SLT) as to whether a child is safe to go on the trip and represent the college.

Marianne Clements - educational visits coordinator

(Refunds: refunds will only be made in the event of the trip being over-subscribed. If parents voluntarily remove their child from the trip, for any reason, or the school decides that the child cannot travel due to behaviour concerns (except for the initial deposit prior to the final list of students being approved), no refunds will be made. Furthermore, parents will be liable for the full cost of the trip once the final list of students has been approved.)

1 March 2018

The trip to Stratford-upon-Avon on Monday 4 June 2018 is open to all students in Y7 and offers an excellent opportunity for students to gain an insight into Shakespearean life. During the day students will potentially have the chance to:

  • Explore the creative choices of a Shakespeare play by taking part in a drama workshop which is led by a RSC Education Associate Practitioner.
  • Gain an appreciation of what goes on behind-the-scenes with a backstage tour at the RSC theatre where there is the opportunity to get up close to the stage, look at props and costumes.
  • Experience life in an Elizabethan classroom with a visit to the school he attended as a boy, be prepared to meet the ‘Master’.
  • Take an interactive, magical journey through 100 years of theatre-making at the RSC.

Travel will be by coach from Ibstock Community College.  We anticipate leaving school around 08:30 and returning at approximately 17:00. Timings for the day will be confirmed once we have a schedule for the activities.

The approximate cost of the trip is £28 and we will be asking parents / carers to make a voluntary contribution for this amount. If we do not receive enough voluntary contributions to cover the cost of the trip, the trip may not be able to go ahead. (Arrangements may be available to support parents/families who are eligible for financial support. Please contact us if you would like to discuss this further.)

Initially, if you would like your son/daughter to take part in this visit please complete the REPLY SLIP and return to Mrs Hayles by Wednesday 14 March at the latest.

When the list of students has been finalised you will receive a letter to confirm whether your son/daughter has secured a place. All voluntary contributions will then need to be made by Monday 14 May 2018

Should the trip be over-subscribed, we will write to parents with an explanation of the selection criteria, which will be applied consistently and fairly to all interested students.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Maria Hayles - English teacher and trip leader
