SPORTING fixtures

14 Sep 2017

Your child has been selected to represent Ibstock Community College in the football or netball team, competing in the North West Leicestershire league. Home football matches are played at Ashby Road playing field (Ibstock Junior Football Club - LE67 6HA) near to Melbourne Road off the double roundabout. Parents need to pick up footballers from Ashby Road (not school). Home netball matches are played at the college on the all weather pitch. Footballers will have some additional cup games this year too (dates tbc). Parents are welcome to come along and watch and support the team.

Please can you share the following information with your child so they are well prepared for the fixtures for this term.

Expectations of players and additional information:
  • Check every Monday morning to see if you have been selected for that week’s match.
  • Tick if you can play or cross if you cannot. We do not want to have to chase students for an answer when we can give another student a chance. Additionally, players should state, (on the team list in the PE / leisure corridor) whether they are being picked up from an away match or returning to college.
  • Boys - will need to bring boots, shin pads, red PE t-shirt, black shorts and red socks.
  • Girls - will need to wear their college PE kit and trainers. A bib will be provided for their position of play.
  • Your £3 subscription money will need to paid electronically on ParentPay for the bus travel for away matches (see Mrs Gamble in the finance office or contact her on if you have any questions).
  • For home matches, the footballers get changed at college then walk (without boots on their feet!) as a full team to the pitches up the road. Students do not leave until all their team is ready.
  • Footballers should help to roll the goal posts out and return them to their original place at the end of the match.
  • For home matches, netballers should help to carry and set up netball posts and welcome the away team and check the match netball is pumped up.
  • Matches usually start by 16:00 and are finished shortly after 17:00, arriving back at Ibstock Community College from away matches between 17:45 and 18:00.
  • Occasionally, due to the distance of the fixture or the lack of light by 17:00, we may have to leave period five early (anytime between 14:45 and 15:10).
  • Football teams: Y7 is nine-a-side for away matches, but for our home games we play on a seven-a-side pitch. Y8 and Y9 teams play eleven-a-side, home and away. When the Y9 team play at Ivanhoe we play on their all-weather pitch so trainers are required.
