SAFETY issue - school bus

22 Nov 2017

It has come to our attention that a number of students are putting themselves at risk whilst waiting for the S139 bus to arrive at the Atherstone Road, Measham pick-up point.

It appears that students are waiting for the bus to arrive on the opposite side of the road, by the precinct, and then dashing across the road as they see the bus approaching. There have been a number of near misses reported to us and obviously we are very concerned for the safety of our students.

Safer Travel at Leicestershire County Council, who organise and supply school transport, have been in to college to talk to the students and have explained to them where they need to wait and also about road safety in general.

Parents and guardians are responsible for their children before they board the school bus in the morning and after they depart the bus in the afternoon. These are critical times for students as this is when they are on their own and outside of the safety of the school bus vehicle itself. Please can you talk to your child about the correct and safe way to wait for their bus in the morning.

Yours sincerely

David Phillips

Principal
