Letter from Mrs Williams 30 October

30 Oct 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back after the half term break.

I would like to reassure you that whilst all over the country people are facing further challenges, here at the college we continue to do our upmost to keep our students and staff as Covid safe as possible.

Despite the dreary weather this week our students have been working hard and slowly and safely we are extending opportunities for practical lessons in Design and Technology and science. Our students are enjoying this change to the “new normal” and we plan to increase the opportunities for all across the curriculum.

This week started with the students reviewing their own attitude sweep (which can be accessed in Insight). Following Ms Scott’s assembly, they set their own targets and planned how they will sustain their success and improve where they need to.

Other assemblies included Fire and Fireworks safety from the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service. This is particularly pertinent as we approach Halloween and Bonfire Night.

Today was a day of celebration as all students celebrated their achievements with certificates and a chance to be entered into the raffle and win Amazon vouchers. Well done to our winners. Whose turn will it be next time?

Happy Halloween, stay safe.

Mrs Williams

Face masks – essential equipment

As you are aware the wearing of face masks is compulsory for all staff and students as we move around the college campus both inside and outside of the buildings. Thank you again, for ensuring that almost every student comes to college with this element of their essential equipment. As a school we have provided disposable face masks for those students who have forgotten theirs however has been very costly. Packs of 2 or 3 washable masks are widely available in supermarkets and other stores at a very reasonable price. Could I please urge you to stock-up. As the face mask is part of our essential equipment and is important in trying to mitigate risk and keep the college as Covid safe as possible we continue to record when students arrive without their masks however we will also be holding additional detentions for those who purposely arrive daily without their masks. Also, could you please continue to remind and check that your child/ren has their facemask(s) with them every day including when they are wearing PE kit. Perhaps an idea would be 1 mask in school to be kept in their tray, 1 in their blazer and 1 in their hoody pocket. I appreciate your continued support with this key part of our Covid safety plan.

Thank you to Mel Heath, Business Manager at CR Civil Engineering Limited for their kind donation of face masks.

Having read my plea regarding the cost of disposable facemasks etc, Mel one of our parents kindly contacted the school on behalf of the company asking what the company could do to support. We are now eagerly awaiting the arrival of more face mask. Thank you so much CR Engineering, your help is much appreciated.

Children in Need - Friday 13 November 2020

Due to current restrictions we won’t be able to run our usual range of fundraising activities however we will still mark the occasion with a non-uniform day to raise as much money as we can for young people’s charities across the UK. Students who choose not to wear uniform or PE kit must give £1.

Students who would normally have PE on Friday 13 November 2020 can also get involved and may wear their own sportswear.

All clothing must be age/weather appropriate. Crop tops and offensive slogans are not allowed.

Keeping warm

As we enter winter and the weather turns colder it is vitally important that students are dressed appropriately to stay focused and keep learning whilst in school. Please ensure that students come to school wearing a warm coat (preferably with a hood) which fits over their blazer and/or PE hoody.

In the classrooms it is important that we continue to keep doors and windows open to ensure that there is good ventilation in order to try to reduce the risk of the spread of Covid-19. Our students may want to wear an extra layer of clothing under their uniform which will help to insulate and will still be comfortable. Any additional clothing should not be easily noticeable when worn under the uniform. A long sleeved plain white tee shirt would work well.
