Letter from Mrs Williams 18 September

18 Sep 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that this finds you all safe and well. It has been a fantastic week in school with our students learning well and settling into this “new normal”.  Students have been enjoying the lovely weather out on the all-weather pitch, developing their tennis skills and competing against themselves and each other in a range of athletics on the field.

Next week we will be celebrating the European Day of Languages with an assembly and a range of language and culture focused activities.

We have had a number of students absent with seasonal colds and tummy bugs but we hope after a couple of days of rest and recuperation they will be raring to go again next week – we really don’t want to miss any learning opportunities.

In lieu of our annual open evening we will be launching our virtual Open Evening 2020 on Monday 21 September.  I am disappointed that we won’t be in a position to welcome prospective parents into college to fully appreciate how special a place Ibstock is however I hope that you will point any friends or neighbours towards the website.  Thank you in advance.

Take care and stay safe

Sophie Williams

Head of School

Parent Lite

Please ensure that we have your correct contact details, including mobile telephone and email addresses, in order for us to be able to communicate effectively with you in a range of ways. You can do this via Parent Lite, a quick and easy app. If you have not registered with Parent Lite please email and we will email you an invitation.

Car Park

I would like to take this opportunity to gently remind you that the car park at the front of the school is for school staff use and should not be used to drop off /collect students unless in case of emergency.  Could I please ask that for drop offs and collections you park off site and your child/children walk into school.  There are plenty of staff members on site to help them.

Thank you to the majority of parents/carers and students for ensuring that they have their facemask with them every day to be worn when travelling around the campus, indoors and on the school bus.

For those students who aren’t quite so organised could you please check that they have at least one with them each day, including days when they are wearing PE kit.  We have a limited amount of disposable masks available in an emergency however we are recording those who consistently come without a mask and appropriate sanctions will be put in place should it continue.

Year 7 summer transition work

Year 7 home base tutors have requested that any summer transition work be brought into school on Monday 21 September 2020.  Please ensure that it is clearly marked with the student’s name and tutor group.  Feedback and achievement points will be awarded next week.  I look forward to seeing the work that has been completed.

Healthy snacks

Please note that in line with our focus on health and wellbeing, we do not allow fizzy drinks on site.  As you know a refillable water bottle and a healthy snack (optional) is part of our essential equipment.  Parents/carers please be mindful of giving your children money to spend in the Co-op/other stores without your supervision.  Please be aware and discuss with your children that we will confiscate and fizzy drinks, family sized bags of savoury snacks and high sugar confectionary.

Home learning

If your child/ren are self-isolating please follow the link to the college website and our home learning resources.  In addition to MyMaths, Active Learn (French), Read Theory, SENECA (science and DT) and Focus on Sound, you will find a range of lessons and activities by Year groups across all subjects of the curriculum.  Students have their own log ins (in their planners) for all of the web based portals and well as their personal student email account which their teachers may also use to keep in touch.  It is absolutely crucial that learning continues at home.
