Return your signed CONSENT FORM no later than Thursday 7 September...
We are delighted to have been given the opportunity to take fifty Y9 students to the University of Leicester’s Department of Genetics, for their twelfth Dynamic DNA event. The day will be divided into a variety of different hands-on activities for students to take part in. Activities will include learning about cloning; extracting DNA from a banana; solving a crime using DNA fingerprinting; learning about the structure and function of DNA and the realities of the film Jurassic Park. Dynamic DNA is usually oversubscribed with limited spaces, so places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served receipt of payment via ParentPay. Signed consent forms must be handed in to main reception and students will not be able to attend without the signed forms.
Timings of the day
We intend to leave school around 08:40 and return at approximately 15:10. Traffic conditions may cause delays so this is only an approximate time but we hope to return in time for students to catch the school buses. Students should arrive at school in the morning and register with their form tutors in the usual way before making their way to the AstroTurf ready to board the bus at 8:40.
The cost of the visit is £5.00. All payments should be made via ParentPay as soon as possible. If you feel you are entitled to financial support for this trip as a low income family then please contact the college as soon as possible so we may discuss this further.
Refunds will not be given if your child has to be removed from the trip due to reasons of poor behaviour. Refunds for other reasons will only be given in exceptional circumstances.
Students are required to wear school uniform and they should bring their pencil case.
Food and drink
Students will need to bring a packed lunch and drinks for the day. Please ensure that any drink is carried in a suitable container. Packed lunches will be provided for students who would normally receive free school meals, please let us know beforehand if you would like us to arrange this for your child.
The journey will take about 45 minutes. Students who are prone to travel sickness must ensure they sit at the front of the coach. Students who take any form of medication must make the necessary arrangements before the trip and notify the teachers so that any medication can be administered safely.
We expect all students to behave responsibly and safely whilst on the trip and to be polite and courteous at all times. If we feel that any student is not behaving in an appropriate manner, we will contact parents to inform them of the situation. In exceptional circumstances we may have to ask parents to collect their child from the venue if no other solution can be found. If student behaviour is not at a satisfactory level before the trip takes place we may have to make the difficult decision of not allowing them to go on the trip.
There will be three members of staff accompanying students on the trip and a trained first aider on the coach.
As the legal guardian or parent/carer with parental responsibility, please complete the attached Leicester University consent form to say that you give consent for your child to take part in the visit. The consent form must be handed in to reception no later than Thursday 7 September 2017.
