Dear Parent / Carer

04 Sep 2020

Dear Parent / Carer,

I hope this letter finds you all safe and well.  Here at the college we are all ready for a rest this weekend after a very busy but equally successful few days.

It was wonderful to welcome our new Year 7 cohort last Thursday.  They enjoyed a condensed version of our summer induction days and we were delighted with their enthusiasm and zest for learning.  They have adapted well to college expectations and they have been a joy during lessons and in social time.  No doubt that they will also be in need of some down time this weekend although I am sure that they will have lots to talk about following their first week with us.

It was also lovely to see familiar and a few new faces as Year 8 and 9 came back to school.  I am really proud of how they have listened, taken on board and adapted to the changes to college life.  Again, our students have embodied the RESPECT standards and our college motto of “Respect and Pride Brings Success”.   They are a credit to you and to themselves.  Long may it continue.

As Head of School I am immensely proud of all staff across the college who have once again risen to the challenge of adapting their working practice.  Their resilience and unfaltering focus on the quality of education and safeguarding of our students is commendable and I feel privileged to work with such a team.

Thank you, parents and carers for your continued support.  We appreciate that the beginning of the new academic year can be a stressful time and in particular this year.  For all, it has been challenging but no more so than for the new Year 7 parents and carers.  We understand your frustrations and concerns and we hope that we have satisfactorily managed to reassure and support you.

Thank you to Liss Sport who have worked hard to deliver uniform as quickly as possible following delays to the manufacturing/supplier chain due to the pandemic.  Please be reassured that students will not face any sanctions if their uniform has been ordered.

Thank you for your support with the pre ordering of lunches via ParentPay.  Mrs Woodward and her team have adapted well to the changes and lunchtimes have ran smoothly under the guidance of the lunch time supervisors and premises team.  Students have been polite and respectful and enjoyed their lunchtimes chatting in the outdoor eating area.

Finally, just to reassure those parents/carers whose students travel by bus to college.  During the summer we did inform Leicestershire County Council of our wish to alter the timings of the school day.  Currently we are in discussions to resolve the issues with the buses late departure times and will update you accordingly.

Also, could we please ask that you encourage students to wear their facemasks on the school bus please.

Have a lovely weekend.

Sophie Williams

Head of School
